Crisp, cool mornings. Crunchy leaves underfoot. Plaid scarves and football! Autumn is one of my favorite seasons and I look forward to styling my home so that it’s warm and cozy for the coming months. I also love to make it welcoming for family and friends that will be here for holiday celebrations. Here are a few things I’ll be doing to prepare for Thanksgiving that might give you some inspiration.
Stock the Bar
If you know me, you know how much I love my bubbly and red wine! Now is the time to stock the bar, not only with your favorite beverages but with glassware and accessories, too. It’s nice to have everything on hand for impromptu celebrations that always turn out to be the best part of the day. I enjoy using lots of glassware in different styles. I often use my antique linen drink napkins (yes, they have to be washed and ironed, but I love them!). I love using fun paper napkins that I pick up throughout the year. We’ll start off in the morning with mimosas to sip while preparing the big meal. For dinner, we’ll enjoy a variety of wines. Check out these great ideas on my FYI: Stock the Bar Pinterest Board.
Set the Thanksgiving Table
I love to set a gorgeous table and certainly take extra time to put together to perfect look for Thanksgiving dinner. I try to make it fabulous without driving myself crazy by getting too complicated. I’m all for keeping it easy! I love Sferra’s basic linen napkins and have sets of them in several colors. This year I’m thinking of forgoing the traditional color scheme and using either a black/taupe or pink/gold scheme for our table. I always use fresh flowers with a mix of small potted green plants, veggies and gourds. Unfortunately, we don’t have any small children in our family at this time, so no kids table; I used to love to make a special kids’ table with little craft to keep the kids busy. I’ve put together more inspiration for setting your Thanksgiving Table on Pinterest.
Get Warm and Cozy
As cooler temperatures set in, I’m all about the fireplace and lighting lots of candles. We rearrange our family room furniture so our comfy chairs are close to the fireplace where we love to nap, read and drink hot chocolate (or wine)! I wash and put away the cotton quilts and rug and bring out wool throws and a thick pile area rug. I stock up on candles and particularly love vanilla scents that add so much coziness on cold Pittsburgh nights. Visit my FYI: Warm and Cozy Pinterest Board for your inspiration.
Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Davin Interiors!
