On the heels of this year’s Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) in Orlando, I thought it perfect to “sink” into some of the latest trends in luxury bathroom design. At Davin Interiors, we are best known for creating sophisticated and stylish interiors – and that notion rings true from the living room to the bathroom. When designing a bathroom, I think that flair is just as important as function. The key to creating a bathroom that’s equal parts luxury and style is to look to the details.

Lighting is a well-known shortcut to maximum style in any room, but it’s especially true in the bathroom. Light sources at multiple angles flatter the face, and luxury fixtures like chandeliers and unique flush mounts add sophistication.
At Davin Interiors, our designs begin with high-quality, exquisite materials. One trend that we noticed at KBIS was burnished gold, titanium, matte black and nickel finishes, for the bathroom as well as the kitchen. Kohler Composed titanium bath faucet and Victoria and Albert matte black Warndon tub are great examples.

One of my go-to resources for materials and inspiration is Crescent Supply, right here in Pittsburgh. I’ve worked with them on several bathroom projects, so I reached out to Paulette Betts to get her input. Her top suggestions for luxury bathrooms include a beautiful freestanding tub, like the Victoria & Albert one I mentioned earlier. Another is a steam shower or, to take it up a notch, a wet room with tub and shower combo, like the one pictured above.

This new construction home was designed and built for a client looking for an elegant, yet low maintenance look and feel. We added special details in the bathrooms throughout the home like a subtle yet sophisticated patterned sink inlay (top image) and quirky wallpaper paired with a beautiful faceted glass vessel.
One trend that we noticed at the show was both sleek and streamlined sinks and unique materials like glass, hammered metal, and black marble. I loved the rough-edge stone sink that we installed in this modern-meets-rustic lakehouse (below). It was the perfect design for the otherwise minimalistic space, as it acted as a piece of sculpture rather than just a sink. It really gave it an extra nuance of luxury without being overly fancy.

One no-fail way to design a luxury bathroom is to create a spa-like atmosphere. Sticking with a fresh, clean palette of neutral hues and soothing shades like soft blue and warm ivory create a soothing aura – the perfect retreat for some rest and relaxation.
