Radiant Orchid

The world’s color “authority”, the Pantone Color Institute, announced RADIANT ORCHID as it’s 2014 color of the year. It’s a beautiful color to use in your home, either as inspiration for a whole room or as an accent color. We’re well stocked with new samples of fabric, wall covering and even furniture options in this color family. We've recently completed a couple of interior design projects with this orchid-purple based color scheme… and what could be fresher for accents after our long Pittsburgh winter?

I can envision radiant orchid especially at this time of year as an accent color for fresh flowers, toss pillows and other accessories. Here are a few ideas of how it can be used, and how pretty it is, either alone or combined with other colors.

Just a little bit of a bold accent can go a long way, as you can see in the photograph above. The bold orchid color stands out against the white walls and brick, and works perfectly with the blue vase and bold yellow accents.

The fun attic bedroom designed by Tobi Fairley, above, makes a fresh statement by the use of several shades of orchid, pink and purple. The overall feeling is light and fresh as the colors work so well with the white bedding and other furnishings.

If you’re not ready to commit to this color scheme for an entire room, you can always enjoy it with fresh flowers and table decorations for a spring party. Try it for a Mother’s Day brunch or any get together you may be hosting. Orchids and pinks mix perfectly with greens, blues and yellows so it’s hard to go wrong.  Be radiant this spring!
