Thank you, Oprah!

I ran across an article in a back issue of Oprah Magazine, where Oprah writes about being inspired by art: “…. that’s what great art does: It connects you to a spirit higher than yourself. Makes you want to be better.” Wow, did she hit the nail on the head – I was covered in goosebumps as the words jumped off of the page!

Great artists and their work truly inspire me to do better and be better. And I try hard every day to stay connected to a spirit higher than myself.

Two sources of daily inspiration for me are:

1

Carole King

She was so inspirational to me during her performance with Sara Bareilles at this year’s Grammy awards show. At 72, her voice is so strong and she’s beyond beautiful. All I could think was, “I hope to be like her when I’m 72!”

Michelangelo’s David

Anyone who knows me knows that I’m obsessed with my favorite piece of art, Michelangelo’s David, who stands majestically in the Accademia in Florence. Talk about inspiration! I can’t imagine how anyone can walk away from him without being a changed person. If a fellow human created him, then I can certainly strive to do better, to be better.

So thank you Oprah, for putting into words the sentiment I’ve always experienced but somehow never defined.
